If you know me, you know I’m obsessed with houseplants. There’s just something about filling my space with greenery that brings me so much joy and serenity. So, of course, I had to read a book about the best ones to have in your home. After testing out a few recommendations (and some personal favorites), I’ve narrowed it down to the ones that have truly made a difference in my life. Whether they’re purifying the air, helping me relax, or just adding to the peaceful vibe of my home, these plants are my must-haves for a calm, healthy, and beautiful living space!
1.
DWARF FRENCH LAVENDER
Anything with lavender screams peace! We all love lavender, and for good reason—its calming aroma is like a mini spa session every time you walk past it. Did you know the smell of lavender reduces stress and promotes a serene environment? And let’s be real, these plants are beyond cute and totally aesthetic for your home! Make sure to keep your Dwarf French Lavender by a window because they love soaking up that sunshine. If your home doesn’t get much natural light then I highly recommend this Light for Indoor Plants. It actually works and leaves your plants happier than ever! Another reason this plant is a must have? They also help improve sleep, so try placing one in your bedroom. Sweet dreams guaranteed.
2.
FLAMINGO LILY
Y’all, I’m absolutely obsessed with the Flamingo Lily! Not only is this plant a beautiful attraction in any home with its striking blooms, but it also works hard to remove airborne toxins. These beauties prefer indirect sunlight and need to stay consistently moist, so don’t forget to water them! My favorite thing about the Flamingo Lily? It increases daytime oxygen levels, giving your space a fresh, breathable vibe. I keep mine in my living room, a safe distance from the window since I live in Texas—y’all know that heat can be no joke!
3.
PEACE LILY
If you haven’t figured it out yet, I’m a lily girlie through and through. The Peace Lily is another one of my absolute favorites, and I’m convinced they work even better alongside the Flamingo Lily! This plant is not just about looks—it’s a hardworking air purifier, filtering out toxins and even removing mold from the air. I’ve placed mine in the bathroom, where mold can be an issue. These lilies prefer filtered sunlight and a daily misting to stay happy. And when you place your Peace Lily next to a Flamingo Lily, it’s like they were meant to complement each other!
4.
SPIDER PLANT
This one is a must in every home. I refuse to live without Spider Plants, and once you experience their benefits, you’ll see why! These plants are air-cleaning machines—they not only remove toxins but also trap dust, mold, and even smoke with the wax on their leaves. I keep mine by the kitchen window because they thrive in medium to bright light. Make sure to water them weekly and mist daily to keep them looking fresh.
Caring for your indoor plants is just as important as choosing the right ones. To make plant care easy and enjoyable, I recommend this Indoor Plant Care Kit that has everything you need to keep your plants happy and healthy.
5.
BAMBOO PALM
Now for my natural “humidifier,” the Bamboo Palm! I love this plant for the earthy vibe it adds to my home, and it’s perfect for those dry, allergy-prone months. This plant helps increase humidity, which complements my actual humidifier during allergy season. I keep mine in the corner of my bedroom, where the air needs a little more moisture. Since Bamboo Palms thrive in low light, you don’t want to place them next to a window. Fair warning—these babies can grow big, so be prepared to give them space! They’re also top-tier when it comes to removing airborne toxins, so I can’t recommend them enough.
