There’s something about hitting rock bottom that makes you realize just how much you need help, love, and support. During my loneliest moments, when disappointment was too heavy to bear, I realized I wasn’t alone after all—God was there, waiting for me to turn to Him. It’s in those times of feeling lost and forgotten that I found God’s presence most comforting.
In my post, Overcoming Loneliness: My Path from Disappointment to Growth, I shared how I came to embrace personal growth through that difficult season. But behind that personal journey was an even deeper spiritual truth—God was with me the entire time, guiding me through every moment of despair. It wasn’t until I turned to Him and His Word that I truly began to heal.
I often wish I had leaned into His word sooner, as I later found the strength and peace I needed was always there in the Bible. Spending intentional time with God through devotionals helped me connect with His promises. If you’re looking for a way to dive deeper, I recommend these devotional journals: The Women’s Study Bible: Receiving God’s Truth for Balance, Hope, and Transformation for structured guidance through scripture, or this Faith-Based Gratitude Journal to keep your focus on God’s daily blessings. Both are perfect for fostering peace and reflection.
“When you feel like you’re drowning in life, don’t worry-your lifeguard walks on water.”
If you’re struggling with loneliness or feel like you’ve hit rock bottom, I want to share the 10 Bible verses I wish I had read during my darkest moments. These verses have since become a source of hope and healing for me, and I pray they can do the same for you.
10 Bible Verses to Read When You’re Feeling Lonely:
1. Deuteronomy 31:6
“So be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid and do not panic before them. For the Lord your God will personally go ahead of you. He will neither fail you nor abandon you”
This verse is a powerful reminder that God is always by your side, even when life feels overwhelming. You’re never walking alone.
2. Isaiah 41:10
“Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.”
When you feel weak or anxious, remember that God’s strength is made perfect in your weakness. He’s there to hold you up.
3. Psalm 34:18
“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted; he rescues those whose spirits are crushed.”
In moments of deep sorrow and loneliness, God’s nearness is most profound. He heals and restores the brokenhearted.
4. Matthew 28:20
“And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
Jesus promises His constant presence. Even when you feel abandoned by the world, He remains with you forever.
One of the most helpful tools I’ve found for diving deeper into scripture and letting go of worry is journaling through the Bible. Highlighting meaningful verses and reflecting on them with intention can help you build a stronger connection with God’s promises. If you’re looking for something to assist you in your study, this Bible Journaling Kit comes with highlighters, translucent sticky notes, and tabs for organizing your favorite verses. It’s a great way to stay focused on God’s word and to keep reminders of His peace and guidance in your daily life.
5. 1 Peter 5:7
“Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.”
You don’t have to carry the weight of loneliness and worry alone. God cares deeply about every emotion you feel.
6. Psalm 147:3
“He heals the brokenhearted and bandages their wounds.”
No matter how shattered you feel, God is in the business of healing. He mends wounds and restores hearts.
7. Jeremiah 29:11
“For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.”
God’s plans are always good, even when it feels like the future is uncertain. Trust that His purpose will unfold in your life.
8. John 16:33
“I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.”
Life’s struggles, including loneliness, are real, but Jesus has already overcome every challenge you face. He gives you victory.
9. Psalm 23:4
“Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me. Your rod and your staff protect and comfort me.”
Even in the darkest valleys of life, God’s presence is a source of comfort and protection. You are never truly alone.
10. Romans 8:38-39
“ And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
No matter how far you feel from God, His love is always with you. Nothing can separate you from the love He has for you.
Even in Silence, God hears you
Loneliness can make you feel isolated, like no one understands what you’re going through. But God’s Word reminds us that He is always near, always loving, and always ready to help us when we feel alone or broken. I know now that even at my lowest points, God was there waiting for me to turn to Him. These verses have been a source of strength and comfort for me, and I hope they bring the same peace to your heart.
If you’re feeling lonely today, lean into God’s promises. You are never alone—He’s right there, waiting to comfort and uplift you.
