The Gift of Jesus

A Family Christmas Bible Study

Christmas is a beautiful time to reflect on God’s greatest gift to us—Jesus. This family-friendly Bible study is designed to help you connect with one another and grow closer to God as you explore the true meaning of Christmas together.

If you’re looking to dive deeper into God’s love this Christmas, check out my post on The Meaning of Love at Christmas: A Family Bible Study. It’s a perfect follow-up to this study and will inspire your family to reflect on how to share Christ’s love during the holiday season.

Opening Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for bringing us together as a family to reflect on the true meaning of Christmas. Open our hearts and minds as we read Your Word. Help us to see Jesus as the greatest gift and to carry His joy and peace into our lives. Bless this time and guide our discussion. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

The Promise of a Savior

“For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given, and the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”Isaiah 9:6

Long before Jesus’ birth, God promised a Savior to His people. This promise reminds us that God’s plan for redemption was always in motion, and His gift of Jesus is everything we could ever need.

Discussion Questions:

1. Which name for Jesus in this verse stands out to you most, and why?

2. How does it feel to know that Jesus is your Wonderful Counselor or Prince of Peace?

3. When has God’s promise given you hope, even in difficult times?

The Birth of Jesus: God With Us

“But the angel said to them, ‘Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; He is the Messiah, the Lord.’”Luke 2:10-11

On the night of Jesus’ birth, the angels proclaimed a message of joy and hope to the shepherds. This good news was for everyone, and it reminds us that Jesus came to bring joy and peace into our lives.

Discussion Questions:

1. Why do you think the angels told the shepherds not to be afraid?

2. What does “good news of great joy” mean to you personally?

3. How can we share this good news with others during the Christmas season?

The Word Became Flesh

“The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us. We have seen His glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.”John 1:14

Jesus is Emmanuel, which means “God with us.” Through His birth, God came close to us, showing us His grace, truth, and love in a way we can experience personally.

Discussion Questions:

1. What does it mean to you that Jesus is “God with us”?

2. How does knowing that God is always with you bring you comfort?

3. How can we as a family reflect God’s love to others this Christmas and beyond?

Closing Prayer

Dear Lord,

Thank You for the gift of Jesus and the hope, joy, and peace He brings to our lives. Help us to keep Him at the center of our Christmas celebration and carry His light into the world. Guide our family to reflect Your love to others in all we do. Thank You for being Emmanuel, God with us, now and always. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Christmas is more than traditions and gifts—it’s a time to reflect on Jesus, who is the ultimate gift. As you celebrate this season, let these discussions deepen your family’s understanding of His love and His presence in your lives.
